  3 1/2 Day tour - Up the Track - Alice Springs-Darwin

<- Back
[This trip can depart early morning or noon.]

Day 1 - Alice to the Devils
We leave Alice Springs at approx midday and head up the track following in the footsteps of John Macdowell Stuart. 30kms north of Alice Springs we cross the Tropic of Capricorn, stopping briefly to walk back across again just for fun. At Ti Tree, we visit the Red Sands aboriginal art gallery, where there is the opportunity to purchase authentic aboriginal art. Heading north, we stop at the historic telegraph station of Barrow Creek to visit the donkey before heading to our camp site at the Devils marbles, the oldest exposed surface on earth in time for as sensational sunset.

Day 2 - The Devils marbles to Hot Springs
Rising before the sun, we pack up our bush camp and head towards the old gold mining town of Tenant creek to experience a true outback town. Weather permitting we take a quick detour to Mary Ann dam for a swim and a look at the pelicans and the natural wildlife. Lunch is a definite must at Daly waters pub, the oldest pub in the Northern territory. Enjoy a drink with the locals and a swim in the pool, beside the beer garden. After a leisurely lunch, we head off to Mataranka thermal springs, naturally located in majestic surrounds. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the thermal springs and at the Mataranka homestead before settling down for the night in swags under the stars.

Day 3 - Thermal springs to Waterfalls
Up early for a morning swim to wash away the cobwebs, we head off to the famous Katherine Gorge for a morning spent canoeing or cruising (own expense) down the gorge, where there is the opportunity to view aboriginal rock art and crocodiles in their natural environment. A leisurely day is had as we make our way up to the picturesque Edith falls, where bush walks, swimming and fun are abundant as we set up camp for the night and enjoy sunset over the falls.

Day 4 - Litchfield and up the track to Darwin
Heading off early on the last day of our tour, we stop in to say hello to Charlie the water buffalo at Adelaide River, before detouring to Litchfield national park for a day of swimming and exploring. Marvel at the giant cathedral and magnetic termite mounds scattered throughout the park, reaching several meters high and as solid as a rock. The park is home to many spectacular waterfalls, where we will spend the day cooling off in the sparkling clear waters of Florence and Tolmer falls and Buley rock hole. A relaxing afternoon sees us finish the tour with a final drive into Darwin to finish another Remote Tour.
